Sunday, July 28, 2013, students of the fourth year of the graduating class called "Alternance Promo" of the Law school of Jacmel launched a series of conferences and debates in the premises of the institution. According to Lubin Andrenel, student in 4th years, this initiative is part of a process aimed to make of the Faculty of Law of Jacmel, a space for reflection and debate on research and the transmission of knowledge. "This approach also announced a wind of change that begins to blow in the law school since the series of movements triggered by students, about a month ago to to release the school under the influence of the administration of George Greffin, dean of the faculty," indictaed Lubin, who has argued in favor of a new law school where immorality and partisanship will have no place.

For his part, Jean Raymond Marcus, also a student in the fourth year, announced in the coming days the establishment of the Committee of salvation of the Law School, grouping several students, whose mission is to discuss with the Rector of the State University of Haiti (UEH) and teachers on the problems encountered, to give a new direction to the Faculty.

On Tuesday, the students organized a conference debate on the theme: "The role and importance of the university in a democratic society", with a panel composed of lawyer Lerin Nathanaël and of philosophy professor Ketel Jean Philippe which was attended by students of different classes of law school and those of graduating classes, and other graduates of the city.

In his speech, Professor Jean Philippe Ketel, showed the importance of the university in society, in its search function, while in Haiti, the universities of the UEH are far from this mission stating, "[...] in Haiti, we just create institutions suggesting that they are universities, yet they do not meet the standards that make them universities," declared the professor who argued in favor of the reform of universities in the country.

For his part, Me Lerin Nathanaël denounced a very common practice, where incompetence reigns over competence deploring "It is inconceivable that in Haiti, political activists continue to occupy positions in public institutions, just for their work provided to their political boss, despite their intellectual disability, a practice, that discourages Haitian university students."

Recall that the initiative to organize this series of conferences of debates and reflections came at a time when the Law Faculty of Jacmel, in a period of crisis. Since June 28, 2013, students of this faculty, organize protest movements to demand the departure of Dean Greffin Georges and his team for mismanagement and corruption. "Jacmel between glory and decadence, crystallization through its institutions" is the theme for the next conference.
