Saturday, at the initiative of young people, of the Youth Torch of Hope (JEFE) of the Christian Evangelical Church of Lizon more than a hundred people, of all generations, made a clean sweep in the neighborhood of Bon Repos. Organized on the sidelines of the Carnival of Flowers on the theme "Empowering citizens for a clean environment", this activity was aimed at encouraging the residents of this community in the north of the capital to pose civic actions and to keep their environment clean.

"We want that our environment is clean," explained Marconel Cajuste, who was speaking on behalf of JEFE. "It is normal that we live among the garbage and do nothing. We are committed to organize this event to remind every Haitian, and all religious denominations in the country, that in addition to their professional, religious or political activities, they should be involved in community activities in order to live in a clean environment."

According to Elysée Saint-Fleur, Head of Communication of the JEFE, this initiative, which had been organized on March 30, was once again the opportunity for these young to encourage the residents of this community to practice good citizenship. "It is therefore to change those bad habits and cause a reaction among residents that the JEFE decided to mobilize even the children. It's citizenship and it is learned at that age. If they are aware that it is necessary to respect their neighborhood, we won, because they are the citizens of tomorrow."

For his part, Jean-Richard Bastien, treasurer of JEFE explains that the initiative has taken place without the financial support of any public or private company. "We contacted many institutions in order to obtain their support to do even more, but none of them answered us, if not the Metropolitan Service Solid Waste Collection (SMCRS) through the Directorate of Operations, led by Serge Morancy, who put bins at our disposal to remove debris that young people, who have worked all day under a blazing sun, have gathered after sweeping."
