Haiti - Culture : 5th Edition of the Festival Kompa Zouk 2013

The 5th edition of Festival Kompa Zouk (FKZO) began. The program 2013 was unveiled Saturday, July 27. Upon opening, the organizers offered free workshops of Kizomba and Kizompa, both dances currently popular on the dance floors in the world.

Tuesday, July 30 :

Conference on the theme of Haiti and Education with speakers Gabriel Osson and Jhonel Marvan, at Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St West, Committee Room # 3, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Friday, August 2 :

"Testimonials of Haiti", a collective art exhibit featuring works inspired by Haiti. The exhibit, presented in partnership with Harbourfront Centre, opens on August 2nd with a cocktail reception and continues to August 5th at the Marilyn Brewer Community Space, Harbourfront Centre.

Saturday, August 3 :

FKZO together with Unleashed Legacies, presents a special performance by one of today’s most popular kompa groups, Carimi, along with Karizma. The event will take place at Daniels Spectrum, 585 Dundas Street East, Toronto. Tickets are $35 in advance. Doors open at 10:00 pm.

Sunday, August 4 :

The 2013 Festival culminates with a Free Festival Day, in partnership with Harbourfront Centre. The Festival Day offers a full line-up of activities including live performances by Tabou Combo, Stevy Mahy, Carimi, Mapou Ginen and many others; dance workshops; screenings of the films "The Agronomist" and "ELZA" ; creole cuisine demonstrations; activities for children and a youth exhibition soccer match. The Festival Day begins at 12 noon at Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay West, Toronto.
