Haiti - Culture : 1st edition of the International Festival of the Popular Arts (Jacmel)

This year, the city of Jacmel hosts for the first time in Haiti, the International Festival of Popular Arts. This cultural and popular event to be held from 19 to 24 July 2013, will bring together in addition of Haiti, dance groups, of singing and music from several countries such as Brazil, Poland, the United States, Venezuela, Cuba and Mexico are expected to Jacmel and Port-au-Prince for this Festival.

The International Festival of Popular Arts of Jacmel is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism through the Committee for Tourism Event of Jacmel (formed by the Departmental Directorate of Tourism South East) and in conjunction with the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Art (CIOFF-Haiti).

For this first edition, the Haitian government confirms its commitment to work to preserve our identity, by advocating the respect for the arts and popular traditions : it is also a way for Haiti to provide a space of expression to the groups perpetuating the tradition of folk art, an opportunity to meet and exchange between peoples by highlighting their respective identities.

125 dancers, musicians and foreign artists will take part in this cultural and popular event.

Friday, July 19: from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturday, July 21 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday, July 22 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Friday, July 19: 6:00 pm: Parade in traditional costumes, Street of Commerce - Tourist Port.

Friday 7:00 pm: Welcome cocktail at tourist port

Saturday, July 20:

Big Show at stadium Jacques Khawly. Program: Mini-concert of music with the School Dessaix Baptiste of Jacmel and dance shows (Haiti, Poland, United States, Brazil, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela). Admission 200 gourdes - From 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm - Tickets on sale at the National station (aviation)

July 22, 2013 Destination South: Dance Workshop and cultural activities

From July 23 to 24: Performance in Port-au-Prince
