Haiti - Reconstruction : Improvement of the circulation in neighborhoods 16/6

The International Labour Office (ILO), an United Nations agency responsible for the project 16/6 of training intended for stronger permanent structures, participates in another level to the improvement of living conditions in neighborhoods.

With debris from neighborhoods in the metropolitan area that have been recycled, of briquettes, known in Haiti under the name of adoquins could have been manufactured to pave 4,000 m2 of routes of circulation in neighborhoods 16/6 of Canapé Vert (Villa Rosa), Bois Patate, Jean-Baptiste and Morne Hebo.

Several meetings with relevant platforms have been held to determine the needs of each neighborhood and well-coordinated recruitment. As in any intervention of the program 16/6, 70% of the workforce come from neighborhoods.

The training of the ILO allowed the workforce of neighborhoods, to acquire new skills in terms of repair and construction and gain through investment in the neighborhoods, means to meet their needs.

Thursday ILO met again relevant platforms concerned around the adoquinage project but also about training in health and safety on site.

Recall that the ILO organizes for all those who want to acquire the basic knowledge in construction, weekly training sessions on building called "Chantiers Ouverts".
