Following the rumors circulating in the media, about repatriation of Haitians living in the Dominican Republic, the Dominican Embassy in Haiti, in a statement issued on Friday, denied this information and asserts, there will be no reprisal measures against our compatriots, following the trade dispute on poultry products that oppose the two countries.

Press release :

"Given the informations who report rapatriation by the Dominican government of undocumented Haitians in reprisal to the ban imposed by the Government of Haiti to the Dominican poultry products, we want to clarify the following :

FIRST :

The Dominican government has no plans to repatriate massively undocumented Haitian residents in the Dominican Republic, and we want to make it clear that the situation of undocumented migrants is an allocation of the Directorate General of migration and border authorities, that takes place at any time when the person tries to enter the national territory in a clandestine manner.

SECOND :

His Excellency, Danilo Medina Sanchez, President of the Dominican Republic, was clear in the direction to initiate a dialogue as the only way to resolve the conflict resulting from the ban imposed by the Government of Haiti to Dominican products, under the allegation that in our country there was bird flu, information that has been proven incorrect.

THIRD :

It is no in the spirit of the Dominican authorities to take any kind of reprisals against nationals or against the Haitian government, since it is not a diplomatic or media war, but rather a dispute, we believe, thet the latter should be resolved through dialogue, in a spirit of harmony and good neighborliness.
