Haiti - Diplomacy : Teleconference between the National Palace and the White House
Wednesday, June 19, the President Michel Martelly, met by teleconference with Joseph Biden, the Vice President of the United States of America. For nearly one hour, the two officials discussed on the strengthening of Haitian-American relations in general, U.S. aid to Haiti, institutional strengthening, the Caracol Industrial Park and travel warnings, in particular.
Vice President Biden, has not only reiterated the support of the U.S. Government to the Administration Martelly, but also his personal support to the advancement of the democratic process and the reconstruction of Haiti. Recalling the difficult conditions in which the current government team has inherited the power, the U.S. number two, has indicated that "the progress in Haiti are visible and constant." He also said that donors and the Haitian people were fully aware of it.
In addition, Joseph Biden praised the commitment, energy and ethics of President Martelly, whose he has recognized the efforts of his administration in the areas of democracy, human rights and the fight against corruption. Reiterating the commitment of the United States to Haiti, the U.S. Vice-President expressed the willingness to deepen the existing cooperation in the construction of a prosperous Haitian state.
This interview is the first of a series planned between the National Palace and the White House.
