As part of a project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the the International Development Agency and Spanish cooperation (AECID) amounting approximately 13 million U.S. dollars, the rehabilitation and extension works of the network of the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA) of Jacmel have been launched. This work, which will be completed in March 2014 are aimed at facilitating access to safe water to the taps of the population of the city.

Since the beginning of the week, some areas of Jacmel, particularly Carrefour marin and Aviation are transformed into construction site. All team of the Dinepa are at work to repair the water system built in 1980, often criticized by the public as a system being, vector of all kinds of disease.

Over 300 linear feet 10-inch pipes are already installed, whereas previously the system was made ​​with 2-inch pipe. The engineer Frantz Pierre Louis, of the Regional Directorate Dinepa Southeast indicated that at the completion of the work, the meters will be installed among subscribers to better manage the service and also invited moreover, people who want to have a connection to water service, to come claim their contract at the office of the DINEPA of Jacmel.

"Unlike previous years, when the water supply was made between two to three times per week, in the coming days the water will flow in faucets of the population 24/24," declared the engineer Frantz.

Compared to the different claims of customers during rainy seasons when the water became muddy, officials of the DINEPA gave the assurance that the new system will take into account this problem and considerable efforts are being made. A filtration plant will be installed for this purpose and several reservoirs are already built in Orange, in Monchil to only name a few.

"INCATEMA / METRO AGUA" is the company that runs this project with the subcontracting AEIR construction under the supervison of Dinepa Jacmel.
