Haiti - Social : Delivery of passport, some Travel Agencies abuse

Because of the inconvenience caused by the rehabilitation of the local of the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration, the Ministry of the Interior and Local Authorities, invited the passport applicants and of residence permit, in a note dated May 6, to contact the travel agencies authorized to operate on the territory of the Republic https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8542-haiti-notice-procedures-for-passport-application-or-residence-permit.html

However, the Ministry of the Interior is obliged into a new note, to remind the Travel agencies, that they must ask of amounts adequate for the provision of appropriate services related to the delivery of passports.

"According to information received by the Ministry some travel agencies asks up to 4,000 to 5,000 gourdes to their clients for the constitution of the folder and delivery of passports while the passport fee charged by the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) amounted to only 1,600 gourdes.

The Ministry of Interior and Territorial Communities, in its desire to develop, in favor of passport applicants, advantageous offers, congratulates Travel Agents who request reasonable service charge of approximately 900 gourdes, totaling an amount charged of 2,500 Gourdes to their customers, for of passports delivered under normal conditions.

The Ministry urges Travel Agents, Immigration Officers under the Decree of 21 December 1970 to encourage the efforts of the Government to improve in a sustainable manner, the conditions of existence of the population, by providing their customers quality services at affordable prices."
