Haiti - Health : Commemoration of World No Tobacco Day

Friday, May 31, the Ministry of Public Health and Population, as part of the promotion of health for all and in its effort to educate citizens to adopt new behaviors vis-à-vis tobacco, proceeded to the commemoration of World No Tobacco Day under the theme "Ban tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship" and sought the support of all sectors to fight against this scourge in Haitian society.

During this event, different personalities intervened, including Dr. Jocelyne Brunache Pierre-Louis, Director of health promotion and protection of the environment, Dr. Jean Cantave, President of the Haitian Oncology Society (SHONC), Fabiola Noël, Representative of the Association for the Prevention of Alcoholism and addictions Chemical (APAAC).

Jocelyne Brunache Pierre-Louis, who represented Florence Duperval Guillaume, the Minister of Health, in her speech for the occasion, stressed that the smoking among young people, which is the primary target, has already reached 23.2%. She also insisted on the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC), which is a platform for engagement, cooperation and multilateral action against the rise and spread of tobacco use, which remains a framework instrument waiting to be voted by the Haitian Parliament...
