Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the head of a Haitian delegation represents Haiti from 27 to 28 May 2013 at the 21st Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia's capital). This summit which marks the 50th anniversary of the African Union, is an opportunity for the Haitian delegation to present the congratulations of the President of the Republic of Haiti and of the Haitian people to members of the black continent.

In his speech of circumstance in the gallery of the African Union, the Haitian Chancello recalled the historical and cultural ties that unite Haiti to Africa and took the opportunity to reiterate the determination of the Haitian government to develop a special relationship with the "alma mater" through the African Union.

The audience welcomed favorably the proposal of the Chancellor Haitian to develop privileged relations between Haiti and the African Union at the summit placed under the theme of "Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance".

On the sidelines of the summit, the Chancellor Casimir, had a meeting with the President of the African Union Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, who is committed to :

• Facilitate a better cooperation between Haiti and Africa in the fields of culture, education, sports ;

• Promote the request for associate membership of Haiti to the Heads of State and Government of the Union ;

• Making an official visit to Haiti to strengthen ties between Haiti and the African Union.
