Haiti - Culture : The President Martelly encourages the production of films in Haiti

In order to better make known Haiti around the world as well as the prowess of the native army and heroes of the independence of Haiti, including Toussaint Louverture, Jean Jacques Dessalines, Alexandre Pétion and Henri Christophe, the Head of State which already supports the initiative of the Nigerian filmmaker Jeta Amata to make in Haiti a film about Toussaint Louverture, encourages all actors, directors and producers known to contribute to this objective through film productions in Haiti.

Besides its unique revolutionary history as the first black republic in the world, Haiti has a rich culture unparalleled in the Americas: one of the most spectacular coastline of the Caribbean Sea [1.700 kilometers of idyllic coastline] ; famous sites such as the first bastion of filibuster, the famous Turtle Island, the largest network of fortifications of the eighteenth century, the imposing ruins of plantations colonial as well as the greatest symbol of freedom built after independence, namely the Citadelle Henri Christophe.

Also the President deemed appropriate, not only to make Haiti a tourist destination, but also a prime location for the film industry.

To this end, the Haitian government is willing to maintain and support all stakeholders involved in the film productions, in order to facilitate the realization of films, able to allow the people around the world to discover this part of world history, which took place in this corner of the Caribbean.
