Haiti - Politic : Mirlande Manigat wants to battle against the inequality of women in Haiti

This week at the conference "The paper of women in Haitian politics" organized by the Organization Citizens United for Progress (UCP) chaired by André-Jean-Rony Monestime, Mirlande Manigat, Secretary General of "Rally of Progressive National Democrats" (RDNP), affirmed before of Haitian citizens of New Jersey, from different social sectors came to this conference that If women do not get the importance they require, Haitian society will not achieve its desired development."

The former presidential candidate said she was going to battle, not only for social inequality, but also for the integration of women in politics in Haiti, saying that women today live in social and political marginalization in Haitian society. "An example of the difficult situation in which women live in Haiti is that the new government, led by Michel Martelly, maintains a permanent exclusion and persecution, the women who supported our political project."

She noted that to achieve the advancement of women, the Haitian legal system needs to be changed, which will allow a greater level of equality in Haitian society. "I want that in the future, Haiti is a country in which does not take precedence the inequality between women and men." She believes that women must make progress in education to eliminate the deep inequalities that for years are rooted in Haitian society "More educated will be women, the more we will have a better society."
