Haiti - Agriculture : Martelly for the transformation of the agricultural sector - 100,000 seedlings

On the occasion of Labor Day and agriculture, 1 May 2013, Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic has renewed the commitment of his Administration to transform the agricultural sector in Haiti.

"The celebration of the Feast of Agriculture and Labor on 1 May 2013, is an opportunity for my Administration to renew its commitment to support the efforts of all concerned institutions to transform the agricultural sector in Haiti.

The necessary support to peasants and farmers, so remote they are on the territory, constitutes a major concern and is part of a long-term approach to stimulate domestic production.

This celebration is all the more significant because it coincides this year with my decision to order

2013: the Year of the Environment," declared the President Martelly.

100,000 seedlings

Meanwhile the Ministry of Environment of Haiti (MDE) announced today that it will plant 5,000 seedlings in Saut d'Eau on the occasion of the World Labor Day and during the month of May more than 100,000 seedlings will be planting by the Ministry of Environment, thus strengthening the national reforestation campaign.
