On the sidelines of his participation in the 5th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Association of Caribbean States, ACS, the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, went to the Republic of Chile School (École République du Chili) one of the 5,000 schools damaged or destroyed during the earthquake of January 2010.

On site, the Chilean President, announced that in October of this year would begin the reconstruction work of this establishment, stating that it will be a modern establishment "a beautiful school that offers quality education to over 600 girls in Haiti."

While thanking the Haitian students, he pointed out that "[...] we do something of very important here in Haiti and Chile, which is to give our children a quality education that will enable them to fully develop their talents and abilities."
