Haiti - Health : Training of 10,000 Community Health Workers Polyvalent

Friday at the Royal Oasis in Petion-Ville, at the launch of the Phase II of the training program for Community Health Agents polyvalent (ASCP), Dr. Marie Guirlaine Raymond Charite, Director General of the Ministry of Health announced that the Ministry had took the decision to deploy at term, a little more than 10,000 ASCP [total] in the 10 department [1 agent for about 200 families].

"These agents are deployed to strengthen health institutions of first level. They take care primarily of education, promotion of the health of families, of the orientation and the accompaniment of families towards health services [...] they are attached to a health institution [private, public, mixed...] ...] As part of the team of family and community health, they complement the other categories of care providers [...]" said Dr. Raymond Charite. This training is falls within the framework of the tripartite Brazil-Cuba-Haiti agreement, whose the first phase consisted in developing a curriculum and of first forming agents. The 2,700 workers currently identified, trained to respond to specific health problems, will receive training to become polyvalent agents "They will be trained from a curriculum approved by the MSPP," said the Director General of the Ministry, who explained that the ASCP represented an essential category of the chain of care "[...] They will allow to improve the health indicators, strengthen national health policy and increase the accessibility of the care in order to provide adequate answers to the priority programs of the government [...] This system has two additional obligations : o encourage the community to achieve self-responsibility in prevention and health education, and, on the other hand, guide the population towards health services that should complement its own action based on the needs of its area of intervention."

This year, the Ministry of Health intends to train nearly 4,000 other additional polyvalent Agents.
