Haiti - Justice : End of 40 months on the run for Michel Belony

Tuesday, Michel Belony, 36, who had escaped on the occasion of earthquake of 12 January 2010, was arrested in the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo by members of the local branch of the International Police (Interpol) while he presented himself to apply for a visa at the consulate of a country that has not been specified. "The detainee will be delivered to the Haitian authorities in the hours to come, so that he return to jail," have indicated the Dominican police authority.

Recall that during the earthquake of January 2010, nearly 6,000 prisoners had escaped. Since then, more than 5,000 fugitives have been arrested and returned to their cells, according to Gerardo Chaumont, Commissioner of the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah). According to Dominican police sources (September 2011), approximately 500 escaped prisoners of Haitian origin, could have found refuge in Dominican territory.
