Haiti - Tourism : Tourism Development Plan of Jacmel 13/04/2013 12:08:11
Wednesday, at the Council of Government, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, unveiled the plan "Destination Jacmel" that concerns the tourism development of Jacmel. "This plan, which includes the city center, pedestrian heart of the coast of Jacmel is specifically focused on the revitalization of neighborhoods of the historic center, including the streets of Commerce and Ste-Anne. The redevelopment of these arteries will complement the tourism development already engaged in the city alled the granary of Haitian art in the Great South of the country," said the Minister. "The Haitian government has decided to invest in Jacmel, in order to ensure the development of this historic town into a tourist destination prominent in the Caribbean. The Administration Martelly-Lamothe considers the implementation of the following projects : - Construction of a Promenade including an amphitheater (in progress) ; - Reconstruction of the Hotel Jacmelienne ; - Construction of a Convention Center with a capacity of 800 people (in progress) ; - Construction of the public square of the city ; - Rehabilitation of streets of Commerce (neighborhood houses craftsmen) and of Sainte-Anne ; - Protection of the city against floods ; - Extension of the Airport runway (1,700 m) ; - Construction of a landfill ; - Construction of a plant for waste water treatment ; - Improvement of the system of drinking water (urban core Jacmel). Jacmel has long been a benchmark in terms of tourist destination in the Caribbean. Its unique heritage and its culture are recognized worldwide. The Development of the project Destination Jacmel, confirms the significant efforts made by the Ministry of Tourism, aimed at rebuilding the brand image of the cultural capital and the country in general."
