Haiti - Security : 32 suspects arrested in 4 operations

Result of the ongoing cooperation between the Police Nationale d'Haiti (PNH) and the police component (UNPOL) and military of the Minustah (Brazilian and Sri Lankan military contingents), 32 suspects were arrested during the 4 joint operations conducted from 4 to 6 April.

Informed of the presence of suspicious individuals in areas of Carrefour, Rivière Froide, Cité Soleil and Simon Pelé, following the investigations conducted by the PNH, these operations were aimed at reducing the activity of armed gangs in these neighborhoods. Up to 122 members of the PNH and of the Minustah walking and in armored vehicles were deployed in each operation.

Thursday in Cité Soleil, the operation "Tarantula" led to the arrest of 4 former Haitian military, suspected of criminal activity in this zone.

Friday in the neighborhoods of Carrefour, during the last operation named "peration national", 22 people were arrested, including two key suspects suspected, among other things, of murder of a Haitian police officer two weeks ago.

The 32 suspects are currently in custody.
