Haiti - Environment : 25 young people attend a seminar on biodiversity

Saturday ended a seminar organized by Panos Caribbean, with the support of Macarthur Foundation, the Société Audubon Haïti and Frame of Mind on photography and biodiversity, with a component concerning the protection of the environment. 25 youth (13 girls and 12 boys under 18 years), from the South Coast, South East and West gathered in Camp Perrin, at the Training Centre of Siloé, to follow this seminar from 27 to 30 March 2013. Friday as part of this seminar visits were organized in the area of ​​Macaya National Park, and Saturday youth participated in workshops on production.

Indi McLymont Lafayette, Panos Coordinator in Jamaica, Joel Timyan of the Société Audubon Haïti and Robin Moore, Deanna Del Vecchio and Katie Schuler of Frame of Mind made ​​the trip to Camp Perrin, to share their knowledge with young people in the fields of photography, biodiversity and climate change.

Ms. Belette Valcourt, Representative of the Ministry of Education, declared "It is a training really important and I encourage young people to replicate the knowledge on biodiversity in their communities [...] take care of the environment as if you take care of yourself," recalling that youth represented the future of the country.

Under this program, young people will have to produce a reportage photos and articles, that will be published on the website of Panos Caribbean and on social networks.
