Last week held a training seminar for the benefit of 4 technicians of Metrology Laboratory of Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI). The seminar was hosted by Fidel Fernandez, Venezuelan consultant in metrology. Recall that the Metrology Laboratory [inaugurated on 14 December 2012], has for main mission, the verification, calibration and/or adjustment of the measuring instruments used in trade and industry, as well as the certification of measuring instruments.

This seminar was intended to enable the launch of the operations of metrology laboratory: Verification and calibration of instruments for measuring of weight and volume used by both public and private laboratories, industries and commercial establishments in the country.

Michèle Paultre, Director of Quality Control and Consumer Protection declared "This training is part of the launch of the operations of metrology laboratory. The consultant was here to train technicians to the use of equipment that has been acquired by the Ministry. This is to provide to the public and private institutions of services in the field of Metrology of weight and volume. Technicians who receive training theoretical and practical, have made on site visits in order to apply the knowledge acquired. Through this training, technicians will be able to provide better service to the private sector and industry in the context of legal metrology [...] In time, the four technicians who took part in the seminar will provide training to other technicians in the future."

Upon completion of this training, the technicians assigned to the metrology laboratory, are now able to meet the needs of different users of measuring instruments [weight and volume] on the whole national territory. The t raceability of measurements conducted at the national level, are now possible and the control operations, have began immediately after the seminar. The metrology laboratory will also provide of services, to the regulatory organisms (legal metrology), and to the economic operators (Industrial Metrology), in order to ensure equity at the level of commercial transactions, the improvement of quality of the health and safety of the population.
