Haiti - Economy : Easing measures on the payments by Banking Cards

Haiti - Economy : Easing measures on the payments by Banking Cards

Following the circular #101 of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) in January which stated that all transactions in the territory of Haiti, by Credit Card, should be paid exclusively in gourdes and that, whatever the place of issue of the Credit Card. To the numerous protests about the negative effects of such a measure on the Haitian economy, the BRH has issued Monday, March 25, a new circular, which amends the circular #101, aimed at easing the above measures, too rigorous.

This new circular, which amends the previous indicates that as of April 1, 2013, all transactions by Banking cards issued abroad can be optionally in gourdes or foreign currency, adding however, that the billing transactions from cards issued in Haiti will be made necessarily in gourdes and that, even if the expenses are done outside in other foreign currencies.
