Haiti - Social : José Miguel Insulza receives Gérald Oriol, Jr.

Tuesday in Washington, José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) received Gérald Oriol, Jr., Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities in Haiti, to assess progress in the opportunities for disabled people in the Caribbean country and explore new possibilities of cooperation with the hemispheric organization.

The importance of mainstreaming opportunities for the disabled in government programs was the main message of Secretary Oriol, who explained the progress and initiatives that his country is promoting on issues such as inclusion, disability rights, employment promotion and education by ensuring schools are providing physical access for this population, and the challenges his country faces in areas such as program financing and job opportunities.

The meeting was held within the framework of the visit of Secretary Oriol to the headquarters of the hemispheric organization in Washington DC, where he made a presentation to the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI). The meeting was attended by the President of the CIDI and Permanent Representative of Barbados to the OAS, Ambassador John Beale; the OAS Executive Secretary for Integral Development (SEDI), Sherry Tross; and the Alternate Representative of Haiti to the OAS, Counselor Mirtyl Pierre.
