Haiti - Reconstruction : 23,5 million euros extra from Europe

The Delegation of the European Union in Haiti just let us know that the signing ceremony was unfortunately postponed.

This Monday 18 February, as part of its engagement with the Haitian government in the field of the reconstruction, the Ambassador Mr. Javier Nino Pérez, Head of Delegation of the European Union in Haiti and Jacques Rousseau, Minister of Public Works, will proceed officially to the signature of the addendum to the Convention of Support program for the reconstruction and development of neighborhoods to facilitate the return of affected populations, currently in its second phase of implementation.

This new funding totaling 23.5 million euros, is in addition to the €33.7 million previously allocated to this program, which aims to promote the repair and reconstruction of housing in an integrated approach called "neighborhood housing", comprising of developments of infrastructure and basic services in five neighborhoods of the capital and rural areas of the country. Based on the other hand on a community planning, this funding will also allow to strengthen the role of communities in mastering the development of their neighborhoods, while increasing that of public actors in charge of the reconstruction.

The Support program for the reconstruction and development of neighborhoods to facilitate the return of affected populations benefits also of a cofinancing of €10.5 million of the French Development Agency (AFD) and 200,000 euros of UN-Habitat.
