Haiti - Social : Key handover of 46 houses to Torbeck and Chantal

The Haitian organization "Konbit pou Ranfòse Aksyon Lokal" (KORAL), will proceed this Sunday, January 20, 2013, at the inauguration of the project LAKOU, which aims to contribute to the sustainable improvement of livelihoods of host families and displaced persons in the Southern Department, through the creation of better housing conditions and the development of income-generating activities.

KORAL will hand over this Sunday, at a ceremony, the keys of 46 houses built in compliance with the standards, to an equal number of families living in the municipalities of Torbeck and Chantal.

A group of 375 vulnerable women, that have benefited each of a loan of 10,000 gourdes, will also be present at this event. Thanks to this support, the beneficiaries who did not have access to fundsfrom microfinance institutions have been able to undertake income-generating activities.

Work of soil conservation have also been undertaken by the KORAL: 16.04 km gullies were treated, 83.4 ha of land developed, activities that led to the creation of 1.072 temporary jobs.

In addition, as part of its protection activities of soil, KORAL distributed 26.327 cuttings of bamboo, sugar cane, forage grasses and other. 2.316 seedlings of citrus, acacia, cedar, banana, malanga and others were planted. 31kg of seeds of Acacia and Cassia were sown.

The organization "Konbit pou Ranfòse Aksyon Lakay" created March 18, 1999, is a Haitian association with a social vocation and non-profit whose mission is to promote the participation of community organizations in the process of national development, by establishing a network of community actors, entitled to participate in the identification, design, the execution and monitoring of development activities in the target communities. KORAL actions are concentrated in rural areas in two geographic areas: the Departments of the South and the North West. KORAL intervenes in rural areas through two types of field organization, partners : traditional organizations or rara, and grassroots groups and development organizations.
