Haiti - Social : Agreement reached for Haitians blocked at the Dominican border

Dominican and Haitian authorities, together with the Father Régino Martinez, have reached an agreement for the entry into the Dominican Republic of 1,080 Haitian workers, who were blocked at the border of Ouanaminthe/Dajabon since Sunday, 6 January 2013, indicated the border network "Réseau Frontalier Jeannot Succès" (RFJS) and the Jesuit Network for Migrants, in a joint statement. These people will be accommodated in a space in Ouanaminthe where the formalities will be done and the delivery of birth certificates, passports and visas, before the re entry in Dominican Republic.

Father Martinez told reporters that the Haitian government is committed to provide birth certificates and national identity cards to more than 800 people gathered in Migrants Workers Solidarity Association of Northeast (ASOMILIN) and to facilitate the renewal of visas for 280 other workers holder of passports but whose visas have expired.

The announcement of this agreement Thursday for the entry of Haitian workers in the Dominican Republic, has resulted by the immediate release of bridge at midday and the perspective of a return to normal of commercial exchanges expected this Friday, market day.
