Haiti - Economy : Record of customs revenue in December 2012

Me Fresnel Jean-Baptiste the Director General of the General Administration of Customs (AGD) announced have collected in December 2012, a record $2 billion 402 million 77 thousand 543 Gourdes and 66 cents, a figure never reached for this time of year, or 200 million gourdes more, that in December 2011, which contradicts the informations, that suggests that the country's revenues are declining...

He indicated that these results are due to the efforts of customs officers and employees of several customs offices and that of reformsaimed at modernizing the customs system will be implemented to optimize and facilitate the audit of the Haitian customs and avoid a decline in revenue.Brigades will redouble efforts on the major roads and that more than 1.3 km of fence will be built in Ouanaminthe, to ensure better control of goods in this important border post.

In addition, Mr Fresnel indicated that new measures will be implemented during 2013, in collaboration with the AGD, the DGI, the UCREF the ULCC and the public prosecutors of the Republic, to continue and intensify the fight against smuggling, fraud and corruption.
