Haiti - Social : Good news for community radio

Ady Jean Gardy, the Minister of Communication, obtained from the National Council of Telecommunications (Conatel), an adequate support for the reopening of all community radio stations that had been closed or about to be closed for technical reasons.

Following the intervention of the Minister, community radio stations as such : Radio CORNE LAMBI de Port de Paix, Radio Bois Caïman de Mare-Rouge, Radio Trinité de Mahotière, Radio Makandal de Jérémie, Radio MPP Voix Paysan-Papaye, Radio Voix Claudy Museau, Radio Payen-Inter de Jacmel, and others, are again authorized to brodcast in their communities.

The Minister also promised, at their request, to finalize with the technical support of the Directorate General of Conatel, a specific legal framework that comply with the standards, relating to community radio, represented in Haiti by AMEKA (Association of Haitian Community Media) REFRAKA (Women Network of Haitian Community Radio), ARC (Alliance of Community Radio in Haiti), ACOM (Community Antenna) or SAKS (Society of Animation and Social Communication of Haiti).

Ady Jean Gardy reassured community media, they can now work again in peace, while waiting this legal framework, for which he has introduced a draft in the new legislative agenda of 2013. Community radios are satisfied with the prompt intervention of Minister Jean Gardy in their favor.
