Haiti - Economy : 60 young people will start their own micro-enterprise

Friday, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC), proceeded to the delivery of checks, to 60 young people with business projects, selected in the program "Alternatives Jeunesse", the ceremony was held at the Training Centre Polyvalent of the Croix-des-Bouquets.

Thus, 10 million gourdes from the Treasury under the Public Investment Project (PIP) were allocated to 60 projects of micro-enterprises selected :

  • An envelope of 100,000 gourdes was allocated to each individual company ;

  • Each collective project received an envelope from 125.000 to 150.000 Gourdes.

The 60 business plans were selected by a jury composed of personalities from diverse backgrounds, following atraining seminar and of technical support of 7 days, attended by 135 youth of departments of North-East, Centre and South.

The program "Alternatives Jeunesse" consists to a contest of micro-enterprise projects, carried out in the three departments targeted for the pilot phase. The realization of these projects aims to promote the economic integration of young by entrepreneurship, therefore the establishment of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

In addition, 3 other projects selected under the program "Fonds d’Insertion des Jeunes (FIJ)" of the Conference of Ministers of Youth and Sports of States and Governments, sharing French language (CONFEJES), were also rewarded.

The Ministry took this opportunity to announce that for 2012-2013, 180 young of departments of Artibonite, Grand Anse and Southeast will participate in the expanded phase of the program, which aims to reduce the unemployment rate among young people and encourage their participation in the reconstruction of the country.
