Haiti - Social : The question of the towing of vehicles before a Senate Committee

The Commissioner Will Dimanche, Director of Traffic service and Traffic Police responded Wednesday to a convening of the Senate Committee on Justice and Security. The Senator Steven Benoît was very critical of the procedures of towing of vehicles in the Downtown and to Petion-ville and questioned intensively the Commissioner Dimanche "What are the companies that are responsible for towing? Who are the owners of these firms? What is the exact price for towing a vehicle? How is divided the money ? Where go the money ? What says the Highway Code in this case ?", questioned Senator Benoît, very critical of how the tow is practiced both at Pétion-Ville and in the Downtown.

"Towing is a major weapon that can help us to solve the traffic problem," replied the Commissioner stating that the cost of towing was 3.500 gourds in Pétion-ville and 3,000 Gourdes in the Downtown of the capital. Reminding the Senator Benoît, that the State had not towing service, he said that the income of these tows were divided between the State and the company performing.

Dissatisfied with the Commissioner's answers, Steven Benoît urged the Director of Traffic service and Traffic Policeto clarify in the future the method and procedures used in the process of towing vehicles, insinuating unequivocally that there is according to him, a sort of "mafia" in this case of towing...
