Haiti - Health : Important meeting between Laurent Lamothe and Ban Ki Moon

This Tuesday December 11, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe will meet at 4:00 pm in New York, with the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki Moon, in the presence of the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, of the United Nations Special Envoy to Haiti, William Jefferson B. Clinton, of Dr. Paul Famer, of Director of the Centre for Disease Control, Thomas Frieden and of President of the Inter-American Development, Luis Alberto Moreno.

This important meeting will enable the prime minister to discuss the following points :

1. - The importance of binational plan of elimination of cholera (supported by PAHO / WHO and UNICEF) and the need to mobilize the necessary partnerships to end this terrible epidemic;

2. The challenges faced by Haiti in terms of health infrastructure (water and sanitation) and discuss strategies to implement to out the population from extreme poverty;

3. The appointment of a Special Adviser to the Secretary-General to support the implementation of the binational plan;

4. - The mobilization by the United Nations of new partnerships and resources needed to support government initiatives to eradicate cholera

The Government of Haiti, through this initiative will strengthen the country's health system and accelerate at the same time, the implementation of an efficient and effective binational plan of elimination of cholera.
