Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly determined to ensure the respect of fundamental rights

Monday, December 10, as part of the celebration of the "World Day of Human Rights" under the theme "Inclusion and the right to participate in public life", with the slogan "My voice counts", the President Michel Martelly, calls for awareness in favor of the fundamental rights of human beings, mainly the most vulnerable.

The Head of State reiterated the commitment of his Administration to guarantee, in all its aspects, the elementary rights of the Haitian people through the implementation of public policies. In this regard, he noted that significant efforts are being made in the areas of rule of law, the right to education, right to health, the right to adequate housing and the right to food mentioning among others :

  • The Court of Cassation and the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ) were made ​​operational ;

  • More than one million children were at school this year as part of the Universal Schooling Program Free and Compulsory (PSUGO) ;

  • More than 230 buses provide transportation for students in the ten departments. Twenty more will be added ;

  • Distribution of 974.000 school kits by the State for the academic year 2012-2013 ;

  • Training of over 11,000 teachers ;

  • More than 2.5 million children were vaccinated ;

  • More than 1,000 decent homes will be available at Morne-à-Cabrit during the month of December for the benefit of poor families.

"The struggle which is mine, today in favor of the rights of the human person, can not be resolved in a single day, but constitutes a continuous commitment to enable all to live decently in a country stable and secure," declared the President of the Republic.
