Haiti - Education : Princely Visit to Haiti

The wife of Crown Prince Philippe of Belgium, the Princess Maltilde, Honorary President of the United Nations Fund for Children (UNICEF Belgium), which received to its Royal Palace, the President Martelly, November 21, will be in Haiti from 5 to 8 December 2012.

During her stay, the Princess, as part of the campaign of UNICEF Belgium "A step closer to the school" (Un pas de plus vers l'école), which aims to promote access to school for children in remote rural areas will visit several projects supported by this UN organization. This campaign of UNICEF Belgium aims to reduce the distance between the children and school in rural areas.

These remote rural areas, due to low population density, have less school infrastructure and children are often forced to walk several kilometers, when they have the chance to attend school.

The symbol of the campaign is a blue ribbon which symbolically represents the distance between a child in rural areas of his school.

UNICEF is working hard for many years, to bring the most vulnerable children on the benches of the school and it is in this perspective, that were designed the schools "child-friendly" (amies des enfants).
