Haiti - Politic : Martelly met fifteen ambassadors
The President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, met this Wednesday, November 28, as part of his visit to Havana, fifteen Ambassadors accredited to Haiti, but living in Cuba in order to share with them his vision to out Haïti of its economic vulnerability.
Among the ambassadors to have met the President Martelly, those of Qatar, India, Benin, Bolivia, Ghana, Iran, Malaysia, Mali, Norway, Portugal, Serbia, Turkey, Kuwait, and Vietnam.
The meeting took place in presence of Mr. Pierre Richard Casimir, Foreign Ministers, Mr. Wilson Laleau, Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Jacques Thomas, Minister of Agriculture, Ms. Stéphanie Villedrouin, Minister of Tourism and Vilmont Hilaire, Minister of the Environment, it was an opportunity for the President to explain to the ambassadors his expectations compared to the cooperation to establish in the years of his term.
The Head of State presented to them his main priorities which are education, employment, the intensification of actions to rebuild Haiti, the progress of infrastructure projects of development and the agricultural development. "The situation in Haiti after the passage of Isaac and Sandy is worrying, but recovery efforts of the Haitian government are considerable," he added, while recalling the need for continued work towards the eradication of hunger and strengthening institutions.
The meeting with the ambassadors also focused on the importance of new actions for the awareness and education of young people in the field of environment. He took the opportunity to invite Mr. Jean Vilmont Hilaire, Minister of the Environment to propose a development plan for the sector, which will focus on reforestation, intensive work on the riverbed and actions against erosion.
