Haiti - Social : Working session between women

Monday at the National Palace, Ms. Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of Haiti, met the ambassador-at-Large of the United States on issues related to women and girls around the world, Ms. Melanne Verveer and more than 20 other women during a working session.

The meeting, conducted on human trafficking, women's empowerment and women's entrepreneurship has attended, in the presence, among other, of he U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, Pamela White, of a few women Ministers in the Government, women parliamentarians and Goodwill Ambassador of Haiti, Danielle Saint-Lot.

The First Lady took advantage of the visit of Ms. Verveer, to encourage women leaders to work together. Ms. Martelly also stressed the personal commitment of President Martelly, in the involvement of women in decision making at all levels of Haitian society recalling that "7 women ministers around the table were appointed by the Administration Martelly-Lamothe. 5 women in Parliament have won a victory constitutional, the 30% quota for women at all levels of national life, and particularly in public administration is met and exceeded," welcomed Ms. Martelly.

During her visit [25 and 26 November], Ms. Verveer also met with various associations and NGOs operating in the field of the protection of the rights of women, of their emancipation and of their promotion within their respective sectors.
