Haiti - Economy : Inauguration of arrival halls of the International Airport

Sunday, returning from his tour European tour, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied, among others, by the First Lady, Mrs. Sophia Martelly, proceeded to the ceremony of cutting the ribbon, officially putting into operation the new facilities rehabilitated of the International Airport Toussaint Louverture and symbolically unveiled a commemorative plaque on this occasion, in the presence of Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, members of the Cabinet of Ministers and other officials.

The Head of State has visited the different freshly rehabilitated structures whose arrival halls, of baggage retrieval, and the emergency treatment room set up at the initiative of the Office of the First Lady.

This work marks the end of the first phase of themodern rehabilitation of the International Airport Toussaint Louverture where images highlight Haiti, in the eyes of visitors from around the world.

"I see in the Toussaint Louverture International Airport renovated twofold. Its modernization will contribute to boosting our relations with other countries and to better integrate us in the global economy movement. At the same time, its put into operation according to the standards of modern aviation, makes of it a showcase from which, we make appreciate the value of our work force [...] I am pleased that this work has been carried out from Haitian skills. What makes judging the high quality of our staff and technicians," declared the President Martelly "Thank to all of them that have thus proved that the Haitian workforce is highly skilled and can get into most modern work."

So far, more than 6 million U.S. dollars have been invested in the rehabilitation of these rooms. The second phase consisting in the renovation of the departure lounge, which has already begun, pending the start of work on the third phase, the rehabilitation of the boarding stations.

"The airports constitute in the modern world, of platforms from which are accelerated the trade with the outside world. The availability of such a structure is essential for a country who wants to be open to the world, especially in a country like Haiti, which undertakes to revive its economy," declared the President Martelly, who asks everyone to take good care of the Airport, one of the main bridges linking Haiti and abroad.
