Haiti - Sports : Sports Complex for disabled in Cap-Haitien

This sports complex adjacent to the Rehabilitation Centre Pascale Aurélie Toussaint, within the Hospital of the Baptist Convention of Quartier Morin, has a gym with exercise equipment, a basketball court and handball, of toilets and acloakroom adapted, of developed areas to play volleyball or throw the javelin etc... will thus help to the convalescence and rehabilitation of patients, for most of victims of the earthquake of 12 January 2010. With a capacity of 15 people per day or 300 athletes per month, it is also open to young Haitians participating in regional, national and international tournaments.

Funded to the tune of 200,000 U.S. dollars, by the Section Community Violence Reduction (CVR) of the Minustah, this sports complex is also supported by the American NGO "Haiti Hospitals Appeal" which manages the Hospital welcoming this structure, as well as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which has installed streetlights and solar panels supplying electricity throughout the complex.

"We believe in the revaluation of the most despised and the most vulnerable in society, because they all contribute to the stabilization of the country," declared Mariano Fernández Amunátegui, Head of the Minustah at the inauguration. Concerns shared by Carol Mucadin the Departmental Director North of the Secretariat of State for the Integration of Disabled Persons "Such infrastructures are beneficial for the integration and the welfare of the disabled," promising the organization, soon, of specialized tournaments and championships.
