Haiti - Politic : The Dominican President Danilo Medina in Haiti in January 2013

Friday, a few hours before the opening of the XXII Iberoamerican Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in the city of Cadiz in Spain, the President Michel Martelly met Danilo Medina, the President of the Dominican Republic, that he invited in Haiti. In addition, the President Martelly has also extended an invitation to the First Lady of the Dominican Republic, Cándida Montilla de Medina, to discuss issues related to programs developed by his office.

The meeting between the two Heads of State that lasted nearly half an hour took place in an atmosphere of friendliness and fellowship. The President Medina welcomed and accepted the invitation of President Martelly. It will also return to Haiti in April 2013 to attend the meeting of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), which will take place in Port-au-Prince. Dominican The President declared "Haiti and the Dominican Republic are not only brotherly countries, but Siamese. Dominican Republic and Haiti, living a great moment in their relationship, what will allow both governments to potentiate them to the benefit of all the inhabitants of the island."

During this meeting, the two leaders stressed the importance of stimulating the discussions through the Bilateral Joint Commission, stating that in addition to trade relations, there were other key areas on which they worked together, such as health and protection of the environment and of natural resources. Médina pledged to provide an assistance to the Haitian people affected by natural phenomena and reaffirmed the necessity that the relations between the two countries develop in a transparent manner. The two men conclude on the interest of further promoting the relations between the peoples of the Caribbean.
