Haiti - Economy : The Pink Credit becomes the Solidarity Credit

Yanick Mézile, Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights, announced that the credit program for women, originally named "Credit Rose" (Kredi Wòz) (Pink Credit) [who has experienced starting difficulties], will no be named "Crédit solidaire" (Solidarity Credit).

This pilot program, that will be managed by the Fund of Economic and Social Assistance (FAES) will be launched in November in 31 municipalities. Eligible women will be selected by group of five, before spreading gradually over time.

The beneficiaries will have access to a credit between 15,000 and 30,000 gourdes. "We'll start with the rural women," indicated the minister, who stressed the important role of women in agricultural production and processing, adding that within 6 months, a fund to support rural women will be established.

At the local level, the program monitoring will be carried out by women, which will help the beneficiaries to manage their credit. Training sessions on the principles of credit are also planned as part of the pilot program.
