Haiti - Humanitarian : Haiti can count on the support and solidarity of the OAS

Following the passage of Sandy, José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), expressed the solidarity and the concerns of the organization, to the peoples of The Bahamas, Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica and the United States, deeply regretting the loss of life and extensive damage, which has been recorded in several Member States.

The Secretary-General announced that a meeting of the Inter-American Commission for the reduction of natural risk, will be convened to discuss of the assistance that could be provided to the most affected countries.

The Secretary-General has confirmed the commitment of the OAS to work with the Government of Haiti and its American and international partners to alleviate the suffering of the Haitian people and mitigate the consequences of the passage of Sandy which has caused flooding in several areas the country. "In this post dis aster time that Haiti has known too often in the recent years, President Martelly and the people of Haiti can count on the entire solidarity of the states of the Americas," stated Secretary General Insulza.
