Haiti - Security : The Dominican roads safer for Haitian nationals ?

Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs had met in mid-October the Dominican Ambassador to Haiti, Ruben Silie Valdez, to express him the concerns of the Government against the repetition of acts of banditry experienced by Haitian nationals on Dominican roads. Dominican Ambassador, had then affirmed that the Dominican Government paid special attention to the rise of social banditry, on international routes linking the two Republics.

It seems that the statements of the Dominican Ambassador were not empty words, because this week, the Dominican Embassy in Haiti indicated in a note that the National Police of the Dominican Republic, had proceeded to the dismantling of a major gang involving Dominicans and Haitians, who used to operate on the road linking Bani to San Cristobal in Dominican Republic.

During this police operation, 10 suspects were arrested, including two Haitian nationals, while at least 5 other members of this group are fleeing and actively sought. According to the police, these individuals operated with military and police uniforms, of badges and flashing lights. Dominican police seized 5 guns, three vehicles, jewelery and mobile phones "This group was specializes in stealing cars, jewelry, cameras, laptops and mobile phones. He attacked mainly the vehicles with Haitian registration plates," says the note from the Embassy.

Hope that this police operation will not be an isolated case, so that finally, our compatriots, can travel safely on the Dominican roads.
