Haiti - Health : Fight against cholera in Grand-Goâve and Petit-Goâve

A team from the Ministry of Health, composed of Dr. Pierre Laurent Julnor, Coordinator of the project of fight against cholera and of Alexandre Saverty, responsible of Sanitation to the Health Directorate of West, has begun Thursday, October 18, a supervisory visit and of coordination in Grand-Goâve and Petit-Goâve to inquire about the possible resurgence of the cholera epidemic, distribute chlorine, Aquatabs, and awareness the population on the precautions to be taken.

Saturday, during a conference in the premises of the Communale Health Unit Goâvienne, Dr. Laurent Pierre Julnor and M. Alexandre Saverty, presented a review of their activities and the epidemiological status of cholera in the goâvienne region "We visited many localities in the two communes, we opened an Oral Rehydration Point (PRO) in Vialet, which serves the first plain and other surrounding areas, we conducted home visits (door to door) ; we made decontamination operations ; we awareness the population on the precautions to be taken," summarized Dr. Laurent, which confirmed "to have found a significant decrease in cholera cases in the 4th section Mousambe, Petit Paradis of Grand-Goâve and the first plain of Petit-Goâve."

This supervisory visit, allowed the two agents of the Ministry of Health, to observe a major of latrines and catchment sources, faced by residents of the two municipalities. That is why, they will recommend in their report, the repair of defective catchments by the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA).

Mr. Alexandre concluded, by recalling the preventive measures that people should observe daily, given the endemic nature of cholera, recalling that the objective of elimination of this epidemic in Haiti is set to 2022, by the Ministry of Public Health.
