Haiti - Tourism : Technical evaluation of more than 300 hotel rooms under construction

A delegation of architects and engineers of the Ministry of Tourism, conducting the technical evaluation of nearly 300 hotel rooms under construction in the Department of South from 17 to 21 October 2012. This evaluation is part of the concern, for the Ministry to better play its role of regulator and of guide for the private sector. It is for the Ministry, to create conditions facilitating the increase, not only quantitatively but also qualitatively, of international class rooms available for the reception of visitors in the region.

Initial findings have highlighted the necessity for the Ministry, to accompany the private sector in the consultation of specialists and in the understanding of the concept of tourist accommodation, in order to achieve results that can meet the standards in terms of hospitality in the at the level of provincial towns.

Following these initial surveys and at the initiative of Ms. Karine Condé Regional Director South of Tourism, a meeting was organized in the Delegation, with the Delegate, the Mayor of Les Cayes, the Responsible of municipal engineering and its inspectors, the Director of the DGIand the mayors of Port-salut and of the Île-à-Vache, to discuss the issue in order to achieve a "modus operandi" to come in support to the investors of the Region.

The Ministry of Tourism, through its departmental structures, reaffirms its commitment to accompany the private sector of tourism and take this opportunity to remind to the potential investors that the implementation of tourism facilities such as accommodation establishments, restaurants of tourism, the developments of sites and any other tourist facilities, must obtain, prior to the start of work, the approval of the Ministry of Tourism, who will work in consultation with the Town Halls to ensure the application of construction standards.

The technical team of the Ministry, will proceed during the month of November, to these assessments in other tourist regions of the country.
