Jean Mario Dupuy, the Minister of Culture, participated Tuesday, September 18, 2012, to the launch of the First Edition of "Haiti Fashion Week 2012" which will be held at the Karibe Convention Center, from November 8 to 11, 2012.

"Haiti Fashion Week 2012" is an initiative of the Haitian Support Centre and of Promotion of Enterprise (Centre Haïtien d'Appui et de Promotion d'Entreprise - COPE) and of Haitian Network of Designers (HAND), under the high patronage of the Ministry of Culture through the European Programme of Support to the Strengthening of Culture and Art for the Economic and Social Development of Haiti (ARCADES).

At the launch, dozens of designers have presented, in a fashion show, clothes, bags and other products derived from Haitian art.

According to Ms. Maguy Durcé, General Coordinator of the COPE, "Haiti Fashion Week 2012" includes 5 main axes : the International Week of the Haitian Fashion (Haiti Fashion Week/Modayiti), the construction of a modern workshop, the opening of shops and haberdashers and the establishment of franchises under the label of "Modayiti".

For her part, the Secretary General of HAND, Mrs. Giovanna Menard, states that HAND, intended to work to strengthen the capacity of Haitian designers, to the promotion of the production of its members and to the defense of their interests, but also to the modernization of infrastructure and to the development of textile sector and of handicrafts.

"Haiti Fashion Week 2012" is a showcase allowing the encounter of international buyers f the fashion and accessories industry with the creators of Haiti. On the agenda of the Week of 8 to 11 November, the public will be able to attend many fashion shows with Haitian and international models and Mrs. Maguy Durcé also announced the opening of its first store, for people who want to buy the Fashion products, Haitians.
