Haiti - Diplomacy : Soon a Consulate in Turks and Caicos Islands

Last week, a delegation of Haiti, composed of Jacques Nixon Myrthil, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, of the Ambassador of Haiti to the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Antonio Rodrigue and of Fortune Dorlean, Legal Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Haiti was visiting the Turks and Caicos Islands to discuss of the opening of a consulate in Providenciales [one of the islands of the archipelago].

This Consulate will have four Haitian diplomats, it will allow to process official documents locally for Haitian residents of Turks and Caicos and will be also responsible for establishing "cultural and commercial" links between the Turks and Caicos Islands and Haiti.

"I am delighted that the Haitian people living in the TCI will soon have formal government representation from a Provo-based consulate [...] This will, for example, ensure that it is much easier for Haitians to obtain official documentation [...] The consulate will also provide a focal point of contact for [the Turks and Caicos government] with the Haitian government and facilitate the showcasing of the significant contribution Haitians make to the Turks and Caicos Islands," declared Ric Todd, Turks and Caicos Governor in a statement.

This new Consulate of Haiti, is expected to open in November 2012.
