Haiti - Social : 58 Haitians rescued by a cruise ship

The cruise ship "Allure of the Sea" who left Jamaica Thursday at destination of "Isla de las Golondrinas" saw at 3h16pm a boat of Haitian migrants, drifting. According to international maritime law, the shipwrecked were rescued and the captain of the cruise ship, has informed of this rescue ,the port of Cozumel, his next stop.

The "Allure of the Sea" arrived Friday at 7:30 am in Cozumel. The Haitian migrants landed and were greeted by the staff of the captaincy, the National Institute of Migration (INM) and the Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico (Semar).

According to the report of Captain, delivered to the head of the Port of Cozumel, Eduardo Mixueiro Mancisidor, the shipwrecked 58 people, including four children and seven women, drifting in their boat for 22 days. The report indicates that basic medical examinations were performed on the shipwrecked, who appeared healthy, except some minor burns, and they received first aid.

The Haitian migrants were transferred to the Riviera Maya and then taken by road, by two units of the INM, to the detention center of Chetumal ""Foreigners are healthy and remain in immigration facilities in Chetumal, where they will perform the appropriate procedure to determine their immigration status, in the respect of their integrity and the human rights," informed the INM.
