Haiti - Tourism : Guarantee Fund of $ 10 million for tourism projects in the North

Wednesday, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, went to Cap Haitien, where she attended a meeting with Charles Castel, the Governor of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), Robert Pardo, Vice-President of the Banque Nationale de Credit (BNC), Ms. Georgette Jean-Louis, a member of the Board of Directors of the BRH and of tourism operators in the North.

During this working meeting, Charles Castel announced that the BRH has decided to create a guarantee fund of $10 million to finance tourism projects in the North. For his part, Robert Pardo, said that BNC has decided to provide loans to the tourism operators of North with well-prepared projects, at a fixed rate of 8% over 5 years. On the other hand, the Ministry of Tourism has agreed with the BRH, for an expert in project building be available to investors in the sector of tourism in the north, next September.

Tourism operators have welcomed the initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and the efforts of the BRH and of the BNC, for strengthening of the tourism industry in the region.

According to Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the bjective is the construction of 300 additional hotel rooms, of international standard in the next 8 months.

The same day she visited the booth "Info Tourisme" in Cap-Haitien Airport, she followed he progress of airport expansion and visited the Currency Museum (Musée de la Monnaie) of the BRH in Cap-Haitien, who according to her is "a visit to make absolutely."

The day before, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, had a meeting with the Deputy of Port Salut, Dr. Sinal, the Deputy Mayor and the Departmental Director of the Office South,around the management of the beach of Port-Salut.
