Haiti - Elections : Installation of members of the Permanent Electoral Council

Tuesday, August 21, 2012, the 6 members of the Permanent Electoral Council, have sworn at the School of Magistrates before being installed, in a ceremony at their offices, in the presence of numerous personalities including Jean Renel Sanon the Minister of Justice, Mr. Ralph Théano the Minister delegate to the Prime Minister for Relations with Parliament, Ms. Gabrielle Hyacinthe, Director of CEP, members of Government, the judicial power and the diplomatic corps.

In her speech, Ms. Gabrielle Yacinthe has reminded to the 6 new Councillors "[...] The challenges that await us are huges, before the high expectations of the Haitian people, we do not have the right to fail [...] for this purpose, our mission takes on a new dimension, which is to restore the public confidence in the organization of the electoral process. Together, we will have ensure the implementation of the prescribed legal and constitutional paving the way for a credible and transparent electoral process without exclusions [...]"

For his part, Jean Renel Sanon declared "[...] There is not necessary to spend time on what makes differences between us [...] we can rejoice to have put it place for 10 years permanently, a democratic institution, on which we will watch over and that we promise to preserve [...] It is a reality today, we proceed to the installation of 6 of 9 members, until the Parliament appoints the other 3 soon to complete the Permanent Electoral Council [...] it is necessary that every Haitian has now the certainty, that with its ballot and in regular elections and honest, to participate in the management of public affairs [...] I am confident to live with you gentlemen one of the most beautiful pages of History of the Homeland [...]"

Josué Pierre Louis speaking to his colleagues recalled "[...] You take a solemn commitment before the nation, to work towards the organization of real, free, partial, transparent and democratic elections [...] I remember once again that the CEP will work outside all immixions that could affect the credibility and integrity of its members [...] their success will be that of a people, their failures that of an individual [...]"
