Haiti - Sports : Samyr Laine, did not win a medal, but proudly represented Haiti

Thursday, August 9th in London as part of the 30th Olympic Games, Samyr Laine [bib 2029], participated in the final of triple jump men, third in order of appearance, alongside of Claye Will of United States of America, Compaore Benjamin of France, Adams Lyukman of the Russian Federation, Greco Daniele of Italia, Donato Fabrizio of Italia, Platnitski Dzmitry of Belarus, Copello Alexis of Cuba, Taylor Christian of United States of America, Oke Tosin of Nigeria, Dong Bib of the People's Republic of China and Sands Leevan of Bahamas.

After this competition, Samyr Laine, finished in 11th position out of 12, with a triple jump of 16.65 meters, [his personal best is 17.39 meters and his best jump for the season is 6.88 meters] Under the applause of a cheering crowd, he unfortunately missed his first attempt at the second attempt he jumped to 16.65 meters and to his hird attempt 16.59 meters, after the third attempt, 8 athletes were selected to continue, and 4 removed.

Gold: Taylor Christian of United States of America (17.81m)

Silver: Claye Will of United States of America (17.62m)

Bronze: Donato Fabrizio of Italia (17.48m)

"On behalf of the Haitian people, I congratulate the Haitian delegation, especially, Samyr Laine, for having put high our national bicolor by leading the country in final at the 2012 Olympic Games," declared the President Martelly.

The world record in this discipline is 18.29 meters (Great Britain) and the Olympic record 18.09 meters (USA)...
