Friday, July 27, at a press conference, the French Development Agency (AFD) provided an update on the situation and prospects of programs led by the French Agency.

In her speech, Josefa Gauthier, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, recalled that France, through the AFD, had signed last week, 3 financing conventions with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

This funding, which totaled 37 million euro for 2010-2011, concerns the sectors of agriculture (€4.5MM), health (€7.4MM) and the reconstruction of certain neighborhoods of the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince to the tune of €24.4MM.

For his part, Philippe Orliange, the Regional Director for the Americas and the Caribbean of the AFD, recalled the support of the Agency to the agricultural sector, particularly in the production sector of corn and eggs in the Southern Department.

The Minister for Planning has expressed its wish to strengthen in a continuous way the bilateral cooperation with France, in agreement with the new coordination framework of external aid.

Didier Lebret, Ambassador of France accredited to Haiti present at the conference, stressed that the modality of budget support, represents an instrument privileged by France, allowing the Haitian Government to consolidate its leadership in the management of external aid.
